An email lets you know your status — Approved, Pending, or Not Authorized.

Factors that affect timing

Application Completeness

Accurately completed forms move through more efficiently. Missing fields trigger extra review.

Current Volume

During peak travel seasons, processing volumes rise — which can extend response times.

Additional Review

Some applications are selected for extra review. This is normal and not necessarily a problem.

System Availability

Brief maintenance windows occasionally pause processing. Submissions resume once systems are back.

The best time to apply

As soon as your travel plans are confirmed. Applying early gives you the best opportunity to address any issues that may arise.

Last-minute applications carry additional risk. Planning ahead reduces stress and gives you time for alternatives if needed.

Already have an approved ESTA? It is generally valid for up to two years or until your passport expires. A new ESTA is needed if it has expired, you obtained a new passport, or your information has changed.

💡 Our gentle suggestion: apply at least 72 hours before travel.

Possible Outcomes

Three statuses, explained

Authorization Approved

Your travel authorization has been approved. You are authorized to travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program. Remember — entry decisions are made at the port of entry.

Authorization Pending

Your application requires additional processing time. This is a normal status and does not indicate a problem. Check back periodically for an update.

Travel Not Authorized

Your application was not approved. You are not authorized to travel under the Visa Waiver Program. You may apply for a visa through a U.S. embassy or consulate.

If your application is in pending status and your travel date is approaching, contact our support team. Email support is available 24/7 with typical reply within 24 hours.
